Testing Testing

I've had the pleasure of testing Tikki's newest pattern Acacia - a gorgeous cotton singlet top. It's simplicity, yet attention to detail make it a stand out. I knitted it in just under 3 days, and the restult is very pretty, a great fit and a very versitile little top.

Welcome back sunshine

It's been a while. We've been waiting patiently. And today, in all it's gloriousness (if that's even a word), the sunshine returned. We played, we worked, washed cars, mowed lawns, skipped, had a waterfight, rode bikes and pushed trikes. It was a fantastic, rejuvenating kind of day. And tomorrow - school starts again. Back to the old routine, but hopefully, with more sunshine.

For the MIL

I have a Mother in law, who I suspect is greatly disappointed in her son's choice of wife. I don't care too much. In fact, it's rather a sweet arrangement, because it basically means she leaves me well enough alone. The only thing we have in common (other than a fondness for a certain red-head), is knitting. She is a prolific knitter. Always has something on the sticks. But...the stuff she knits...urgggghhhh.... Year after year she hands us horrendous acrylic handknits for the kids.
So this year, for her birthday, I'm attempting to open her eyes to world of amazing yarn. Try this on for size MIL...Malabrigo Silky Merino in Raspberry. Oh My. The pattern is Saroyan - for more detail check this out.

First Book Week

It was the book week parade at Olivia's school yesterday, and she needed to dress as a book character. She decided on Isabella, from the shortlisted book, Isabella's Garden. Easy done. Floral dress....check. Crepe paper flowers...check. Watering can...check.

Thank God for YouTube - this video showed how to make great flowers, which we used as a headpiece. Perfect. Some parents go all out though - there were some AMAZING costumes.

Done...and just in time for the coldest day EVER!

OMG it's cold here today. Lucky to get to 13 degrees today. Finished a cute jumper for Angus just in time to rug him up in it today. So cuddly. Raveled about here.

Meanwhile Angus has another virus. Hand, foot and mouth. Little blisters everywhere, mouth ulcers. He's had a bad run this winter. Fingres crossed this is the last one for the season. PLEASE.

Finished

Knitting this, was like wishing in the summer :D Shame it's still sooooooooo cold in Melbourne.

And the pose...well, she was using the red block in her hand as a microphone, and singing to Taylor Swift. Ah to be five again..
More about this little number here.

Why blog?

It's an interesting question...why blog? I think it's so I stop putting huge status updates on Facebook - or maybe so I can post as many pics of my kids as I like, without boring my 'friends' on Facebook. Or maybe so I can talk more about my hobbies (obsessions), without being embarrased that I'm a knitter - and LOVE it.

Either way, it's a way to chat, document, vent to my heart's content.

On the kid front - Angus just turned one. We had a wonderful party for him with the whole family there. He had a ball, so did we. It had been a while since we had everyone in the same place.

On the knitting front, I just finished the biggest project I've ever attempted, and it came out GREAT.

I made Dad the Classic Oak Cardigan see Rav for more details. It took me nearly 2 months to do - the most I've ever commited to a single project. It was a relief to finish, but I'm pretty proud of it.
